I've been exactly where you are. At one point I could have ticked all the boxes listed above. However, before I attracted David Bowie as a design client and later as a fine art collaborator and mentor, I made one of the most important decisions of my life. I decided that no matter what, I was going to create a body of work that was revolutionary, a body of work that was the expression of my soul. Moreover I was going to find a way to take this way of approaching art and design to the world.
I didn't know how, I didn't have the money, I didn't have the contacts, I didn't have the time. The economy was pretty dreadful. But this flame of a vision had been flickering away inside me for a long time. I had delayed taking action for over 2 years! I was afraid that I would fail and end up in dire circumstances. I was afraid that there was no market for my unique form of expression. I was afraid to let go and trust my heart.
But there came a day when that vital flame of a vision grew so strong that I understood that not taking action to move forward was no longer an option. The moment you say yes to something that your heart yearns to create, something amazing happens; the universe begins to arrange itself around the energy you are transmitting. As I made that decision to put fear and doubt to one side and said YES, people who ended up playing a vital role started to show up. In a matter of weeks I was producing the kind of ideas and enlisting the kind of technologies that I previously thought were almost impossible. In a matter of weeks I was on the cover a three leading creative magazines and invited onto MTV to showcase my work. This led directly to Bowie contacting me to work with him. The rest is history.
